Penguicon 4 Report

Penguicon 4 was a blast and we have photos, videos and audio to prove it!

The concerts, room parties, masquerade, dance, SWAT-team live action game, and Buffy The Musical re-enactment had an atmosphere that was electric. Here's the first gallery of the photographic evidence of the fun.

Look for even more photo galleries in the days to come. If you post photos to a Flickr account, please use the tag "penguicon4". Tag all your Penguicon photos "penguicon" from all four years. Search Flickr for the "penguicon4" and "penguicon" tags to see them all!

Ice cream made with Liquid nitrogen was a hit at Penguicon. We even put some LN2 in the fountain. Howard Tayler filmed us throwing a bowl of LN2 into the swimming pool and the resulting billow of fog.

The panels and presentations were engaging. One attendee described the science programming in a handwritten note (click here)  as the best she's seen "since a number of Worldcons ago."

The Computer Lounge was the best we've ever had-- Greater Lansing Linux User Group set up lots of terminals where newcomers could try out Linux, they provided demos of internet telephones and digital video recorders that run on open source software, and they provided "The Burn Unit" where attendees could get a CD of open source software of their choice.

Since we have so many of the most popular bloggers at Penguicon, one panel has started gaining notoriety in the blogosphere: "Warfare In Science Fiction" used clever euphemisms to see if they could do the panel without using the word "war"! It became "Tea Parties In Science Fiction." Click here for the full recording of the hilarious and insightful panel. (12MB wav file)
