Network Gaming Requirements

by Ron Blanchett last modified 2006-08-29 21:20

We will be set up to host Counterstrike and Counterstrike Source. Those who plan to play must bring their own computer with a VALID AND UP-TO-DATE Steam account and an Ethernet (twisted-pair) NIC. We will provide host server and LAN hardware (switches and/or hubs).

We are still working on Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (W:ET), but we expect to be able to host this game as well. If we get W:ET set up and running, this would make an excellent frag-fest game. W:ET will require players to bring their own computer with Ethernet NIC, and either Linux or Wind*ws installed. This game *does* have minimum hardware requirements (my 550mhZ P-III won't run it, for example)

Although it's not multi-player, one of the more popular single-player games is one called NetHack. We have both Windows and Linux versions of NetHack sitting on our server available for free download. Once downloaded, this plays stand-alone on an individual's computer.

Other games are possible (perhaps FreeCiv, for example) -- we will provide an update for registration.
